Eat Some Food; Earn Some Points

// December 21st, 2009 // No Comments » // Uncategorized, airplanes, frequent flyer, restaurants, travel tips

Did you know that you can hook your credit card up to something called the Rewards Network and earn frequent flyer miles every time you dine out (at participating restaurants?)  It’s fast and free and easy.  And if you are a foodie like me, you’ll see your mileage account balances going up, without even realizing you were dining at a participating restaurant.  Example: I’ve got my United Visa card signed up to the United Dining network, so not only am i earning points by charging on the card, but i’m also earning points for having signed up with the dining network.  And by ordering some sushi at a restaurant up the road, I earned points.  You don’t need to have a frequent flyer earning credit card either.  Any will do.  And several airlines participate.  Just click the link above to find out.

Bravo For Bond Street (At the 60 Thompson in Beverly Hills)

// October 30th, 2009 // No Comments » // Uncategorized, restaurants

Recently, my taste buds bustled with excitement.  I was at Bond Street in Beverly Hills — the flagship restaurant at the ultra-cool 60 Thompson Hotel — soaking up the sun on the roof-deck and sampling a variety of great grub.  Executive Chef Brian Redzikowski–who spent three years working at Joel Robuchon in Vegas– is quite modest about his creations, so i’m going to brag for him: They are not only beautifully presented, but well thought up and filled with flavor. Among my favorites: Lobster tacos with guacamole, sour cream and micro cilantro. (I’m all about micro-greens.) The tuna tart with micro shisho was the perfect appetizer…sooooo good, with a little truffle oil to really get my palate going.  And then there was dessert. It really was food for thought! A chocolate egg filled with vanilla bean ice cream left us wondering, “How’d the ice cream get in there?”  See for yourself in the below video.  So bravo for Bond Street!  Click the link to make a reservation.

We were lucky enough to get into Movida wine and tapas bar in Melbourne, Australia. Several people told me it was the “hardest” table in Melbourne to get into.  It is worth making a reservation if you are heading Down Under.  Fantastic food, wine and service!
