Saving Money

You don’t have to break the bank traveling!

  • Tip #1 Exchange your cash as few times as possible. Its better to do it in one lump sum because banks and money exchange places charge fees EACH TIME you withdrawl/exchange funds.
  • Tip#2 Call your bank and see if they have any affiliate banks where you are traveling to prevent those withdrawl fees.
  • Tip#3 When you rent a car, don’t prepay for gas.  That way if you don’t end up using the entire tank, you won’t be prepaying for nothing.

Don’t fly first class, flying sucks no matter what. Spend that extra cash on a better hotel room

Use your credit card for all purchases and you will get a much better exchange rate than exchanging cash.

If you must get cash, use your ATM card at a respectable bank and you will get a better exchange rate than at an exchange shop.

Don’t let anyone you buy from with a credit card exchange the money for you. Have them bill your card in local currency. Any place that exchanges for you is ripping you off with at least that and probably other items as well.

Finally, standard Amercian Express cards will allow you to link your checking account to your charge card for withdrawls at ATM machines. The service charge is only a couple of dollars and is not a cash advance.

Talk to everyone you know and trust, see if they happen to have family or friends in an area you’re traveling to. Nothing is like a homemade meal in a foreign country.
