Jetsetter Tobias shares his experiences of a trip around the world with his girlfriend and why this adventure was well worth the price they paid. Thank you Tobias for sharing your story! I hope it inspires others to travel and share their stories with us as well!!
Together with my girlfriend Linda, I travelled around the world on a special fare ticket issued by STA-travel from July 5th 2010 until August 17th 2010. The tickets, including all economy flights on Qantas were about $ 3200 per person, which I find extremely cheap comparing to what you had to pay for buying separate tickets for each destination. Nevertheless people should not underestimate the costs that are coming along (hotels, rental cars, food, tours). In the end, we spent some 72 hours on planes and got back with 92KG (about 200 pounds) of luggage, which was at no extra cost, because the ticket allowed us to check 2 bags p.p. with 23 kg each. Further we were able to collect Qantas miles, which we later used for free one-way business tickets on BA to the US and collected quite some substantial amount of points on SPG, which I prefer when it comes to hotel programs. So despite the money you spend, at the end you also get back things!
The route was as follows: FRA-KEF-JFK-LAX-SFO-LAS-LAX-NAN-AKL-SYD-CNS-SYD-SIN-FRA
