40% Off Buying United Airlines Miles

Right now, there’s a huge deal going on with the purchase of United Miles.  The short-term promotion only lasts until tomorrow night –April 25th — so if you’re interested, get on it.  You can buy up to 100,000 miles per account for just under 2.3 cents a point.  Example: 100,000 points would cost you $2,257.50.  Why is this a good deal?  100,000 points is enough to get you 2 roundtrip business class tickets in the United States, 4 coach tickets say, between LAX and JFK, or a business class ticket to Europe. That’s where it really pays off, especially when you consider paying for a business class ticket to Europe would run in the neighborhood of $5,000.

You can buy as little as 2,000 points and as many as 100,000 through the link. United Miles are incredibly easy to use, and can be used for flights on all Star-Alliance carriers, as well as some other partner airlines like Qatar Airways (which I hear is tops for travel to the Middle East.)

30% Mileage Bonus On Transfers To Virgin America

American Express Membership Rewards is now giving a 30% bonus on points transfers to Virgin America.  If you haven’t flown Virgin America, it is fantastic!  I recently blogged about its upper class. This may be a good way to try out the airline.  The promotion ends soon so hurry!  Here’s the fine print from the Amex website:

“Receive a 30% bonus when you transfer Membership Rewards points to Virgin America between March 19, 2012 – March 25, 2012. Instead of 100 Elevate points, for the period of the promotion, you will receive 130 Elevate points when you transfer 200 Membership Rewards points to Virgin America”

USAirways 100% Buy Miles Bonus

It’s that time of year again. USAirways is back with its buy miles promotion. If you buy 50,000 points through USAirways at a cost of around $1,800, you will get 75,000 miles in return. But then, if you go to points.com and register your USAirways frequent flyer account (for free), you will earn even more bonus points!  Thus, for that $1800 purchase, you’ll end up with 100,000 USAirways points.  Why is this a great deal? Because with 100,000 points, you will have enough for a business class reward trip to Europe or a couple of first class domestic trips. You’re also close to having enough points (110,000 is needed) for a business class ticket to Australia and/or New Zealand.  There are a few things you need to know. First, if you don’t [Read more...]

Last Chance To Get Bonus Delta Miles On Transfers

I’m not the biggest fan of Delta’s Sky Miles program for one simple reason: They charge a crazy amount of points when you want to redeem for award travel. Not always, but a lot of the time!  What’s crazy?  How about 157,000 miles needed for roundtrip business class between LAX and Kona, Hawaii this month. Or how about 80,000 miles for a business class ticket to New York from LAX roundtrip.  80,000 miles is a ton to spend for a flight under 6 hours (in my opinion,) especially when you consider you can generally find availability to Europe in business class for around 100,000 points on partner airlines like Air France.  That being said, here’s your last chance to score some serious bonus Delta points on transfers.  From Delta’s website: “Bring your friends and family with you on your next vacation. Transfer miles to that special someone between August 10 and September 30, 2011 and we’ll give them a 100% mileage bonus.”  Same thing for buying miles: “Need more miles to get to your next vacation? For a limited-time, get a 100% mileage bonus [Read more...]

Inside Lufthansa’s Miles & More Private Shopping Event In Berlin

IMG_1571

You never know where you’ll end up.  I’m currently vacationing in Germany, and last night, I found myself inside Lufthans’a Miles & More private shopping event.  It took place at the famous Galeries Lafayette in Berlin.  The party, as far as I could tell, was a way to promote the Miles & More Credit Card and reward those who have flown a lot with Lufthansa.

Guests arrived to “check in” at kiosks in front of the high-end mall. It was all designed to look as if they were checking in for a flight. After presenting their documents (their id’s), they were allowed in, but instead of being given a boarding pass, they were handed a voucher that could score them 15,000 bonus Miles & More points.  I was a guest of a friend who is a HON Circle Member.  (HON standing for “Honorary Member.”  To get that title you have to fly at least 600,000 miles in 2 years.  WOW!)

Inside, guests were treated to double miles on purchases.

There was a fashion show as well as free drinks. All in all it was quite cool. And the best part for me, I got to mingle with Lufthansa flight attendants.
