Inside Lufthansa’s Miles & More Private Shopping Event In Berlin

You never know where you’ll end up.  I’m currently vacationing in Germany, and last night, I found myself inside Lufthans’a Miles & More private shopping event.  It took place at the famous Galeries Lafayette in Berlin.  The party, as far as I could tell, was a way to promote the Miles & More Credit Card and reward those who have flown a lot with Lufthansa.

Guests arrived to “check in” at kiosks in front of the high-end mall. It was all designed to look as if they were checking in for a flight. After presenting their documents (their id’s), they were allowed in, but instead of being given a boarding pass, they were handed a voucher that could score them 15,000 bonus Miles & More points.  I was a guest of a friend who is a HON Circle Member.  (HON standing for “Honorary Member.”  To get that title you have to fly at least 600,000 miles in 2 years.  WOW!)

Inside, guests were treated to double miles on purchases.

There was a fashion show as well as free drinks. All in all it was quite cool. And the best part for me, I got to mingle with Lufthansa flight attendants.

Review: Lufthansa First Class On The 747

747 Lufthansa Upper Deck First Class

I’ve been lucky enough to fly Lufthansa (Germany’s flagship airline) internationally many times.  As with most things in Germany, the airline is very precise.  It is one of my favorite ways to fly, and truly, one of the best (in my opinion) for international travel to / from Europe.

The First Class configuration on Lufthansa’s 747 is upstairs.  This isn’t always the case with other airlines. But it is where we got to meet the captain.  He came out and greeted all the upper-deck passengers before takeoff.  A very nice gesture that I experienced once before on a Swiss International Airlines’ flight roughly a year ago.  (Another stellar airline by the way.)

The First Class cabin on the 747 is in the process of being retrofitted.  The new seats look amazing.  Each seat actually has a lie-flat bed next to it.  I was hoping to maybe score a flight on one of the newly retrofitted planes but no such luck this go-around. Still, the older product is fantastic. Completely comfortable.  So much room I commented that it “feels like I’m flying in my livingroom!”

You get on the plane and first they bring you a glass of champagne and macadamia nuts (along with a lemony-scented piping hot towel to wipe your hands clean.)  That’s just a teaser for the enormous amount of food that’s about to head your way over the next hour or so. That’s okay.  You’ve got an [Read more...]

Lufthansa 4 Day Strike, But There IS Good News

I am a HUGE fan of Lufthansa, Germany’s main airline.  I have flown it many times in the past.  Sadly, Lufthansa crew are going on a 4 day strike, sure to disrupt major routes.  But while I was reading about the strike, I found a promotion worth mentioning: Lufthansa is giving away 1,000,000 frequent flyer miles to the person who names its new A380 plane.  By the way, that’s enough miles to fly around the world in first class twice!  To find out more, click here.

Lufthansa First Class: Where They Drive You To The Plane

I was fortunate enough to score a couple of first class award seats recently to Germany on Lufthansa (the German national airline.)  The food was great starting with the caviar sampler.  The seats went all the way back into a bed.  And the service was top-notch.  But, without a doubt, my favorite part of the experience was the shuttle service from the First Class Lounge to the plane.  You are driven on the tarmac, by the planes, to the flight after everyone has boarded.  It makes it all so simple.  From the time we left the lounge to the time we boarded it was around 5-8 minutes.  I cut it down to around 20 seconds with this video clip.
